Consultation - garden walk-around
This is a good option if you just want ideas to revitalise your existing garden, or develop some broad directions for a new project. During a consultation from one to two hours I will discuss your ideas and needs, provide suggestions for defining spaces, materials and plants, and leave you with some notes to work from. Concept plan The concept plan is the basis of the garden design. It is a scaled plan showing the proposed layout of the garden, areas of hardscaping and paving and the materials to be used; planted areas with some suggestions for plant species; built features such as pergolas, steps and stairs, decking, retaining walls; other features such as artworks, and any other elements that are part of the plan. The concept plan may be accompanied by some sketches to help the client “see” the design. Underpinning the concept plan is a site survey. The designer will usually do the site measurements required, but on large sites with complicated changes in levels a professional surveyor may need to do this work. Many clients are happy with just a concept plan, and will work from this in their own time, or organise their own contractor. Construction drawings Detailed construction drawings form the basis of the implementation of the design. They are recommended where there are complicated structures and/or consents are required. Plants and Planting Plans The planting plan shows in detail the plants to be used, their position in the garden, the space between them at planting, and the number of each plant species required. Usually some notes about plant care are included. I can assist with sourcing and delivering plants, saving you time and money. Tendering Helen Frances Landscape Design does not offer contracting work. However, I can manage the process of tendering for a contractor to undertake the work. This involves preparation of tender documents, calling for, or inviting, tenders; assessing the quotes and providing a recommendation to the client. The resulting contract is between the client and the selected contractor. Project supervision Although the contract for works is between the client and the contractor Helen Frances Landscape Design can oversee the implementation of the garden on behalf of the client. This may involve just a few site visits, or more intensive supervision including checking and approving invoices before payment by the client. Large and complicated jobs generally benefit from some ongoing discussion between designer and contractor as implementation progresses. |
